Cleaning frozen gutters can be a real bugger!
You know you have to clean them, there’s no way around it…
If it rains and your gutters are chock full of ice, what do you think will happen?
Oh the horror!!
Lucky for you I have a really easy way to clean frozen gutters and it doesn’t involve climbing a shaky ladder and spilling boiling hot buckets all over yourself in an attempt to dump them into your frozen gutters…
My gosh!!
Why would you even consider this??
And don’t even think about putting salt in your gutters…
They’ll corrode and you’ll rust them out…
Anyway…
If I was you, this is how I would go about cleaning frozen gutters…
Step 1. Call up your local plumber and tell him you need a tap installed on the outside of your home…
I know you’ve already got one but this isn’t just any tap…
This is a… drumroll please……………………
Hot Water Tap!!
A hot water tap??
Yep, a hot water tap…
But are you even allowed to install a hot water tap outside??
Yeah you are…
If you don’t believe me, this plumber will set you straight…
You should even get your plumber to mix hot and cold water together so you don’t burn yourself with boiling water…
Besides, if you run scalding hot water through a hose, the hose and fitting attached to it will probably not fare very well…
Yes, I’m speaking from experience…
But that’s a story for another day…
Anyway… go get that tap installed right now…
Call your local plumber right now…
Those frozen gutters aren’t going to clean themselves…
Step 2. Get yourself an extension wand and high quality, kink free, 40m garden hose…
See this here??
This is a 2 metre extension wand that I use…
It’s made to fit into your everyday garden hose…
You know that green mess you have lumped in the corner of your garden??
Well, this wand is a very special wand…
You can extend it up to 2 metres and point the head of the wand down like this…
I wonder what we could do with that??
Oh, I know!!
We can walk around your home with the wand and it’ll reach into the gutters…
This will reach a normal single story home…
But if you have a double story, you’ll need something more like this telescopic pole…
The only problem is, you’ll also need a pressure washer to attach it to…
Ooh wee, this is getting exciting isn’t it??
Now only if we had a hot water tap…
Well if you followed step 1, the plumber just finished up installing your new hot water tap…
Ahhh, but wouldn’t you know it…
Your garden hose doesn’t go all the way around your home does it??
Well that’s why I recommend getting yourself one of these bad boys…
You can get one from this hose shop…
It’s 50 metres long so you should be able to get to all of the frozen gutters around your home…
And if your home is too big for this gigantic hose, then shame on you…
That’s what you get for being greedy…
Why would you need such a huge home??
No I’m just kidding, I’m not jealous at all…
You’re rich so just buy yourself a hose joiner like this…
And then buy another garden hose…
Now we’re all sorted, let’s go to step 3.
Step 3. Spray hot water into your frozen gutters…
Now this is the fun part…
Spray that hot water into the gutters and watch it melt away…
But don’t worry about getting burnt by the hot water because we had the plumber mix it with cold water remember??
And by the time it travels down in the freezing cold air, it’ll be cooler again…
Besides, you can spray the water away from yourself…
Just keep cleaning those frozen gutters, that ice won’t stand a chance…
Well my fine friend, you did it… You managed to clean out your frozen gutters…
All the ice has melted away…
Now I would recommend getting someone out to clean the debris out of your gutters…
That’s the reason they froze over in the first place…
You’ve most likely got leaves and weeds clogging up your downpipes…
The rain water couldn’t travel out of the gutters because it got trapped and froze over…
We don’t want to clean frozen gutters everyday do we??
Didn’t think so…
Go get those gutters cleaned out…
That’s about all from me for today…
I hope you got some value out of this
Let me know in the comments…
Peace,
Jason…
