We all do it…
It’s not that you’re lazy, it’s because you want the answer right now and don’t have time for the small nonsense words…
So… I’m going to get straight to it…
How often do you need to clean your gutters?
You should be cleaning your gutters at least once every year.
That’s every home… once a year… no matter where you live…
Even if you have gutter guards…
But… some homes need it more often.
It all depends on your home and it’s surroundings…
If you have large trees close to your home, you’ll notice leaves and small branches constantly dropping onto your roof and settling into your gutters.
If your home has trees close by you’ll need to get your gutters cleaned at least 2 times a year.
Sometimes you’ll need to clean your gutters more than twice a year
Now I said that if you have trees near your home you’ll need to clean your gutters at least 2 times per year…
If you those trees are large gum trees or pine trees, you may need to clean your gutters 3 to 4 times per year.
The reason is, gum leaves and pine needles fall all year round and they can build up in your gutters very quickly.
You might be thinking… 3 to 4 times a year is too much.
For a lot of people it is too much but if you live in a suburb that doesn’t have mains water and you get your water from rain water tanks then you might want to reconsider this.
Think about all of the dirt and animal feces that can build up in your gutters that carries the water that you drink and bathe in.
In this case you might want to get your gutters cleaned every couple of months
What about if you have gutter guards?
Gutter guards are great… Sometimes…
They keep most of the leaves out of your gutters but all of the dirt still falls through the gutter guards and settles on the bottom of your gutters.
This dirt and mud can cause your gutters to rust out and still needs to be cleaned out at least once every year.
The problem with gutter guards is that it makes it harder to clean your gutters.
You have to remove the gutter guards… clean your gutters… then reinstall the guards…
It makes cleaning your gutters twice as long.
A lot of gutter cleaning companies don’t recommend installing gutter guards…
You won’t believe what some gutter guard companies recommend…
One time I was cleaning a lady’s gutters…
Her home is surrounded by trees and the gutters kept getting blocked up with leaves.
While I was there cleaning her gutters, she called out a company that specialises in gutter guards.
She called this company out for a quote and you won’t believe what they told her…
The sales guy had a look at her trees and her gutters and said the most shocking thing…
“I don’t recommend you put gutter guards on your home”…
“You should get them cleaned every 6 months instead”…
I couldn’t believe it…
A gutter guard company recommending cleaning your gutters more often rather than installing gutter guards…
He then offered to clean the gutters for her, but didn’t realise I was already there to clean the gutters.
